Authenticity of Coins and Bars

Authenticity is of central importance in the trading of precious metals.
GP METALLUM sources precious metals, among other channels, from mints as well as from national and international banking and dealer networks. In addition, we purchase resalable coins and bars from customers.
CERTIFICATES AND PACKAGING
Whether a bar is supplied with a separate certificate, in original manufacturer packaging or an assay card, or without a separate certificate depends on the respective manufacturer and product. The absence of a separate certificate is therefore not, in itself, an indication that a product is not genuine.
TESTING OF COINS AND BARS
Depending on the product, different non-destructive testing methods may be used. These include, for example:
- checking weight and dimensions
- comparing product-specific characteristics
- density testing
- magnetic and other physical testing methods
- other suitable testing methods depending on the metal and product
Which tests are appropriate depends on the individual item. Not every testing method is suitable for every coin or bar.

GP METALLUM is a member of the Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels e.V. (Professional Association of German Coin Dealers) and has committed itself to the standards associated with membership for professional and reputable coin trading.
The obligations of association members include, among other things, ensuring the authenticity of objects sold, informing the association about counterfeit items that come to their attention, and conducting business in a commercially and ethically proper manner.
